All about Housemartin Guest Lodge
Those who have never witnessed the beauty of the Klein Karoo on the famed Cape Route 62 are missing out on one of the loveliest parts of South Africa. Those who have, will always return to admire the majestic mountain scenery, the quaint towns and villages along the route and of course the food, wine and the people!
At the Southern entrance to the magnificent Meiringspoort lies the scenic village of De Rust, where avid "birders and owners of Housemartin Guest Lodge will welcome you. In the garden of the 110 year old Victorian manor house are twelve en-suite luxury guest rooms; each with their own verandah leading onto the gardens, orchard and sparkling pool. In the rooms you will find muscadel, homemade biscuits and rusks. Tea, coffee, hot chocolate and magazines.
The atmosphere lures the guests into gentle relaxation after a day exploring the walking and biking trails in the area. Birding, cycling, wine and olive oil tasting on the local estates.
Try driving through the sandstone peaks of one of the highest mountain ranges in South Africa, the amazing Swartberg, or meandering through the Kammanassie and Outeniquas.
The Meiringspoort; a must see and is home to the Pelargonium or geranium and is abundant with fauna and flora. The waterfall is superb to swim in and a great place to have a sundowner. The lodge is wheelchair friendly.
Situated at the corner of Schoeman and Burger Streets in the centre of De Rust. Jack Sprats is owned by the White Family, daughter of the late Christina Martin who was an internationally known Chef de Cuisine. Her School of Food and Wine was voted in the top three worldwide in 2002. Her legacy lives on!
Jack Sprats Restaurant serves South African cuisine in their new restaurant, making use of seasonal and organic produce wherever possible. From the best Karoo lamb and steaks which dont need steak knives! Try our Bobotie with a difference served in spring rolls with homemade chutney. Desserts and cakes a plenty are all simply delicious.
