Details
This Shiraz is best described as dense, dark and noble. It is a wine to appreciate over many years, noting the improvement over time. With already almost 4 years in bottle, it is drinking extremely well at the moment.
The 2009 vintage has had a name change to ‘Ronnie Melck Shiraz’ after the current ceos' (Rijk Melck) father who bought the farm back in 1987. This Shiraz was created using open-top fermenters and matured in French (90%) and American (10%) oak. The oaking regime allows for dominating savoury and classic flavours while the tiny amount of American oak smooths the wine over and uplifts the fruity flavours slighty.
A definitive Shiraz from a reputable estate in the heart of Stellenbosch (and the Simonsberg ward to be more precise) is a reward to any serious wine lover.
